Sport and the Environment
- Activities of the JOC Sports and Environment Commission

Without a healthy global environment, we cannot enjoy sports. The International Olympic Committee and the Japanese Olympic Committee, as promoters of the Olympic Movement, carry the message of environmental protection via Olympic athletes and teams, and also promote environmentally clean activities by incorporating various measures in the running of events and facilities.
Also, to help preserve a global environment in which people will always be able to enjoy sports, the JOC has established the JOC Sports and Environment Commission, which undertakes various activities.
Since 2004, the JOC has held a Sports and Environment Conference annually, with participation by environmental officers from national sports federations and JOC officials. At these conferences, the participants tell of their approaches to environmental preservation and how they spread their message, and conduct a lively exchange of opinions.
Also, since 2005 the JOC regional Seminar on Sport and Environment has been staged annually in a joint effort between the JOC and partner cities. Nationwide educational and informational activities are carried out under the initiative of local sports federation members.
